Great progress is being made on the construction of the new shelter at 120 East White Hills Road.

May 11, 2026 Update - Raintree cat condos are being installed and dog runs with glass doors are on site.  RFP (Fibreglass Reinforced Polyester Resin) wall panels have been installed in all dog areas.  Veterinary Treatment room equipment is onsite including the Synthesis Treatment Room Chase with wet and dry table, dental wet table, and surgical table.  Cabinetry is being completed in reception and kitchen areas, along with shelving in storage areas.  Our industrial washer & dryer are also on site.​​​

April 28, 2026 Update - Millwork is being completed in the main reception and the volunteer-clinic reception areas, along with the staff lunchroom.  The flooring is 95% complete and the plumbing fixtures are being installed in animal rooms.

April 7,2026 Update - Finished epoxy flooring, painting in progress, and lighting fixtures being installed.  Next steps include cabinetry and kitchen installations.

February 2026 Update - The Honourable Joanne Thompson, Minister of Fisheries and Member of Parliament for St. John's East was on site to announce funding through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program.

November 2025 Update - Much progress has been made since our last site visit in October.  The windows and siding are being installed, the parking lot has been paved, and the walls are going up inside.  We are now in the progress of getting power to the site.

October 2025 Update - Most of the exterior work on the building has been completed, and it’s full steam ahead on interior work.  The roof is water tight, with windows and siding due to be installed by late October.  Our interior walls are up, with HVAC and other systems being installed.

 

​Plans are to open the facility next summer (2026).  But we still have much to do before we can open.  Over the fall and through the winter we expect the plumbing, electrical, flooring and finishes to be completed.
